By Express News Service - KOCHIThe CBI Special Court on Tuesday granted bail to the Income Tax Assistant Commissioner who was arrested recently for taking bribe.
Jose Kunjipallu, Assistant Commissioner, Income Tax, Thrissur, is the first accused in the case. Judge P Sasidharan said that since the investigation into the case has not completed yet, the court could not reject bail to the accused. The CBI has seized documents, and questioned the witnesses in the case. So, further detention is not required.
Since the CBI submitted that it had to question more witnesses, the accused could be released on bail on April 9. In the meantime, the CBI can interrogate witnesses, the Judge said.
The court ordered to release the accused after executing a bail bond of `3 lakh, with two solvent sureties equal to the bond sum. For sureties, the court has asked to produce title deeds, along with tax receipts and copy of identity card.
The accused has been told not to leave the Kochi Corporation limit .The accused has also been asked to furnish details of the place where he intends to stay after release.
He was told to appear before the investigation officer between 10 am and 11 am on all Mondays and Thursdays for six weeks, or until a final report in the case is filed, whichever comes first.
